Discover the hidden gems of Møn on a journey to the towering white cliffs.
This immersive full-day tour takes you to the heart of the Møns Klint World Heritage site, where nature meets wonder. Along the way, we’ll uncover the rare, pre-
Protestant frescoes of Fanefjord Church—a true masterpiece of medieval time and history relating to the church and faith in Denmark — and not to forget, pause for a relaxing lunch in the quaint, atmospheric streets in the town of Stege.
The expertise of our English-speaking guide and dedicated time for independent exploration make it a day designed for true discovery
Highlights: Møns Klint (UNESCO), Fanefjord Church, and Stege town.
- On days when the Fanefjord Church is closed for services, the tour will stop at one of the amazing 5000-year-old Neolithic Passage Graves.
Photography: Don't forget your camera—the white chalk against the blue Baltic Sea is one of the most photographed spots in Denmark.
Clothing: Bring your walking shoes, and not the newest Sneakers; there will be mud, dirt, and chalk if you choose to climb the stairs of Mons Klint. And also layers of clothes, so you can take off as it gets warmer and wear more if the wind is too cold.
Activity Level: Moderate, as long as you don't plan to climb the Mons Klint cliffs. For those who are slow walkers or use simple walking aids, the tour is possible, but you will be walking on uneven surfaces and a lot of fine gravel, and thus, using walking frames with wheels will be having a hard time.
Guide: English-speaking.
Tour description:
Our first unique stop is Fanefjord Church, a 14th-century architectural treasure.
While most Danish churches were stripped of their décor during the Reformation of 1536, this community bravely preserved its world-class frescoes dating back to the 1350s. Your English-speaking guide will reveal the stories hidden in these vibrant murals and explain the dramatic cultural shift from Catholicism to Lutheranism in Denmark.
A Taste of Island Life
For lunch, we pause in the town of Stege, the charming "capital" of Møn. This historic town perfectly captures the essence of rural Danish life. Along its atmospheric main street, you will have free time to explore a variety of lunch options—ranging from traditional Danish smorrebrod (open-faced sandwiches) to international favorites— while soaking up the peaceful local vibe.
The Grand Finale: Møns Klint
The highlight of our day is the spectacular Møns Klint, where 128-meter-high chalk cliffs tower over the Baltic Sea. Formed over millions of years from the
remains of microscopic sea creatures, these layers were thrust upward by massive glacial pressure during the last Ice Age, creating the dramatic vertical face we see today.
For the Curious:
Visit the GeoCenter Møn to dive into the science of the cliffs through world-class interactive exhibits.
For the more adventurous and agile, a climb of more than 450 steps made of wood or in the mud from the GeoCenter to the foot of the cliff is both an experience for your body and a little edging of your soul, as the view is both stunning and scary at times.
For the Nature Lover:
Wander through the 400-year-old ancient forest surrounding the area—a rare piece of almost untouched Danish wilderness, just next to the GeoCenter.
For the Romantic:
Take a stroll to Liselund "Palace", a fairy-tale 18th-century summer palace nestled in a lovely garden.
